Introduction The Women's Army Corps Veterans Association Scholarship honors family members of women who have served in the U.S. Army. The award recognizes students for academic accomplishment and leadership demonstrated through co-curricular involvement and community service. Each year two (2) scholarships of $1,500.00 are awarded. Recipients will be informed by mail or email. After notification, awardees must forward their college acceptance letter to the address provided on the application; scholarship checks are issued directly to the college or university the student will attend. Eligibility - Must be a United States citizen. - Must be a graduating high school student who demonstrates academic promise and holds a cumulative GPA of 5 on a 4.0 scale. A letter from the high school and official transcripts must be included. - Must intend to enroll full time at an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program. - Must be a descendant of a female Army service member (living or deceased) who served or is serving in the U.S. Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard. Qualification may be by blood, step or adoption, or through marriage. Documentation proving the female relative’s military service is required. - All application materials must be postmarked by midnight on March 14 of the year in which the scholarship is offered. Selection Criteria The Scholarship Committee will evaluate applicants using the following factors: 1. Academic achievement 2. Leadership, co-curricular activities, and community involvement 3. Biographical sketch 4. Letters of recommendation Application Process (Five Steps) 1. Complete the Women’s Army Corps Veterans Association application form — either the fillable PDF or a legible handwritten copy. 2. Attach an official 7-semester high school transcript. 3. Provide three (3) letters of recommendation; one must be from a teacher, counselor, or principal. 4. Include a biographical sketch as instructed on the application form. 5. Enclose documentation verifying the sponsor’s (female relative’s) military service. Review your application carefully to ensure all required materials are included and that the package is postmarked by the March 14 deadline.
