Dr. Marlene Caroselli Excellence-in-Communication Scholarship

Purpose
This award honors Monroe County high school seniors (and eligible current undergraduates) who consistently excel in both written and oral communication and who intend to pursue college study and a career that depend on strong communication skills.
Application period
December 1 through February 28.
Award amounts and quantity
- The number of recipients and the award amounts vary.
- Awards average $5,000 and will not exceed the cost of tuition.
- An award may be divided among two or more recipients.
Permitted uses
Funds may be applied to tuition, fees, books, and other higher-education–related expenses.
Who is eligible
Applicants must be graduating high school seniors or current college undergraduates who reside in Monroe County and meet all of the following:
- Demonstrate consistent excellence in both spoken and written English, with an English average of A- (90%) or higher;
- Maintain at least a B (85%) average in general coursework;
- Be currently attending or plan to attend a two‑ or four‑year college or university;
- Plan to pursue a career that requires superior communication skills; and
- Show financial need.

Complete the Community Foundation’s Consolidated Scholarship Application to be considered for this scholarship and others administered through the same process.
Selection process
The Community Foundation coordinates selection. A review committee made up of Community Foundation staff, community members, and family representatives evaluates applications and selects recipient(s).
Notification and disbursement
- Recipients will be notified by email in the Spring with instructions for claiming the award.
- Payment is sent to the recipient’s college or university account in one lump sum in the Fall; the amount is intended to be divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters once required documentation has been received by the Community Foundation.
- To authorize release of funds, upload the requested documentation (including your class schedule and a tuition bill confirming full‑time enrollment at a two‑ or four‑year institution) to the Consolidated Scholarship Application portal between July 1 and August 15.
- Scholarships that remain unclaimed by October 15 of the assigned academic year will be forfeited.

Renewability
This scholarship is a one‑time award and does not automatically renew. Previous and current recipients may reapply in subsequent years; returning applicants must demonstrate a minimum college GPA of 3.0.
