Introduction The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) offers a scholarship program to recognize and support outstanding high school seniors involved in marksmanship. CMP awards one-year scholarships of $3,000, $5,000 and $10,000 to qualified junior marksmen to encourage their continuing education and reward their achievements. In 2026, up to $1,000,000 in scholarship funding will be made available. Major renewable awards for 2026 - A $10,000 scholarship will be awarded in 2026 that is renewable for up to four years (total potential value: $40,000). - Four $5,000 scholarships awarded in 2026 will each be renewable for up to four years (total potential value per award: $20,000). One of these is the Carolyn Hines Memorial Scholarship, presented to the graduating senior who best embodies Dr. Hines’ ideals. The other three $5,000 renewable awards commemorate the retirements of longtime CMP Board members Judith Legerski, Jon Bengston, and Harry Sieben, recognizing their dedication to youth programs. Recipients of these awards will be selected by the CMP Scholarship Committee. Other CMP scholarships - The remaining CMP scholarships are one-year awards that may be used at any accredited college, university, technical/trade school, or vocational program. - In addition, the Garand Collectors Association has generously funded four additional John C. Garand Scholarships, each in the amount of $5,000. CMP Local Scholarships - The program will also grant up to 30 local CMP Scholarships of $1,000 each in the Anniston/Oxford, Alabama; Talladega, Alabama; and Ottawa County, Ohio regions. Seniors in these areas are encouraged to apply. No prior marksmanship experience is required to be considered for these local awards. How scholarship funds are distributed and used Scholarship payments are made directly to recipients via electronic deposit (ACH). Awarded funds may be applied toward tuition, fees, or other education-related expenses not already covered by other grants or awards. Who should apply The CMP encourages applications from graduating high school seniors who participate in marksmanship competitions. Applicants for the shooting sports scholarships should be actively involved in a team or club that competes in marksmanship events. Eligibility requirements To qualify for CMP Shooting Sports Scholarships, applicants must: - Be a U.S. citizen. - Be of good moral character. - Be a graduating high school senior. - Show acceptance to an accredited university, college, trade school, or program leading to a diploma or trade certification. - Demonstrate marksmanship competition experience (examples include air gun, smallbore, pistol, rifle, shotgun, archery, etc.). To qualify for CMP Local Scholarships, applicants must: - Be a U.S. citizen. - Be of good moral character. - Be a graduating high school senior. - Show acceptance to an accredited university, college, trade school, or program leading to a diploma or trade certification.
