Purpose The NEHA/AAS Scholarships support undergraduate and graduate students who plan careers in environmental health. These awards are intended to foster early dedication to the environmental health profession and help students pursue relevant academic training. Award amounts - One undergraduate recipient: $2,650 — Dr. Sheila Davidson Pressley Scholarship - One undergraduate recipient: $2,650 — Dr. Carolyn Hester Harvey Scholarship - One graduate recipient: $3,750 Application deadline Applications for the 2026 awards must be submitted by January 31, 2026. Required application materials Applicants must: - Complete the online application form - Provide a faculty letter of support - Include an academic transcript (official or unofficial accepted) - Upload a current resume - Submit two short essays (each max. 300 words): 1) A brief summary of your professional goals in environmental health, including specific career plans related to the practice of environmental health. (max 300 words) 2) What contributions do you expect to make in environmental health over the next five years? (max 300 words) How applications are evaluated Applications will be scored using the following criteria and weights. Each item also indicates whether it is a required submission element. - Attending an EHAC-accredited program — Weight: 2% — Required: No - NEHA or NEHA affiliate membership — Weight: 3% — Required: Yes - Declared major in an Environmental Health discipline — Weight: 5% — Required: Yes - Faculty letter of support — Weight: 5% — Required: Yes - Academic transcript (official or unofficial) — Weight: 20% — Required: Yes - Current resume — Weight: 20% — Required: Yes - Short response: anticipated contributions in environmental health in the next 5 years — Weight: 20% — Required: Yes - Short response: description of professional goals and career plans specific to the practice of environmental health — Weight: 25% — Required: Yes Undergraduate eligibility To be considered for an undergraduate scholarship, applicants must: - Be enrolled at an accredited undergraduate institution located in the United States, U.S. territories, or freely associated states - Meet one of the following academic conditions: - Be enrolled in a formal, recognized environmental health sciences curriculum, or - Be taking a program or coursework that qualifies the student to sit for the RS/REHS exam - Be a junior or senior by fall 2026 (have completed at least 60 academic credits) - Plan to pursue a career in environmental health within the U.S., U.S. territories, or freely associated states - Use the undergraduate scholarship toward tuition and fees for the junior or senior year Note: Scholarship funds are paid directly to the recipient’s school. Graduate eligibility To qualify for the graduate scholarship, applicants must: - Be a NEHA member or a member of a NEHA affiliate - Be currently working in environmental health or intend to pursue a career in environmental health within the U.S., U.S. territories, or freely associated states - Be enrolled in an accredited graduate program in the U.S., U.S. territories, or freely associated states - Be enrolled in a recognized, dedicated environmental health sciences curriculum - Be enrolled in graduate courses in fall 2026 - Plan to continue a career in environmental health within the U.S., U.S. territories, or freely associated states - Use the graduate scholarship toward tuition and fees for graduate studies Note: Graduate scholarship awards are disbursed directly to the school.
