Overview
The Better Business Bureau Serving Western Virginia (BBB) supports ethical conduct and honesty in the marketplace through voluntary business self-regulation. The 23rd Annual Student of Integrity Scholarship Awards recognize high school seniors across our 32-county service region who demonstrate strong ethical character as shown through leadership, community service, and everyday actions.
Scholarship Details
- Award amount: $1,500.
- Scholarship funds are paid directly to recipients to be used for college tuition or other post-secondary education expenses.
- Recipients must enroll in an accredited university, college, or trade school after graduating from high school.
- Winners are required to attend the Student of Integrity Awards Ceremony in order to receive their scholarship.
Who May Apply
- Local high school seniors: Applicants must be enrolled in a high school located within the BBB’s 32-county service area. Students who are homeschooled and reside in the service area are also eligible to apply.
- Academic requirement: Essay-based applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Attendance requirement: Scholarship recipients must be present at the awards ceremony to accept the award.
How Applications Are Judged
Applications are evaluated on three main components:
- Essay Writing — 40%
- Quality of writing, clarity, and how well the essay presents an ethical dilemma and responds to the prompt.
- Extracurricular Activities — 30%
- Demonstrated dedication to work, community service, volunteer efforts, school organizations, sports teams, or clubs.
- Leadership Roles — 30%
- Description of leadership positions held within extracurricular activities and other community or school settings.
Applicants should address each criterion clearly and provide specific examples of ethical behavior, leadership experience, and sustained community involvement.
