ARRL Foundation Scholarship Program
Scholarship Sponsored by National Association for Amateur Radio
Overview
The ARRL Foundation Scholarship Committee is responsible for determining eligibility and making all award decisions. Applicants must complete the online application form; transcripts and any other required supporting documents must be uploaded together with the application—do not send them separately via email. Many scholarships require additional items (for example, a recommendation letter from a current officer of an ARRL‑affiliated club). Applications missing required transcripts or supplementary documents will not be considered. Tentative notifications to selected recipients will be sent by early June 2024 by USPS and email. Scholarship checks are issued directly to the recipient’s school and are scheduled to be disbursed in early July 2024.
Eligibility
- Academic standing: minimum GPA 2.0
- Licensing: applicants must be active, FCC‑licensed amateur radio operators. [NOTE: Active foreign amateur radio operators are eligible for the ARDC Scholarships.]
- Citizenship: United States and other countries (see specific scholarship rules)
- Grade level: high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student
- Award amounts range from $500 to $25,000
Application requirements and supporting documents
- Submit a completed online application; transcripts and any additional required documents must be uploaded with the application itself (do not email documents separately).
- High school transcripts must reflect your entire high school record to date. If you are in college, include transcripts for every semester for which grades have been posted.
- Graduate‑school applicants do not need to include high school transcripts.
- Certain scholarships mandate extra materials (for example, a letter of recommendation from a sitting officer of an ARRL‑affiliated club). You will not be eligible for those specific awards unless the required documents are supplied.
- Some awards limit eligibility to students attending particular institutions, attending schools in defined geographic areas or states, or enrolled in specific majors—read each scholarship’s requirements closely.
- If you are currently in high school, include a copy of your FAFSA with your application if it is available. Applications lacking required FAFSA documentation will not be considered for scholarships that request it.
Selection and award timing
- Scholarships are intended for the academic year that begins no earlier than June 2025, following the application deadline.
- Recipients will be notified tentatively by early June 2024 via USPS mail and email.
- Award payments are sent directly to the recipient’s school and are expected to be issued in early July 2024.
